These chains are strong and not as fragile as cables. My friend's snow cables broke while descending from Big Bear Lake in California. He bought them the day before. The instructions are fairly simple and the colored links make it easy to figure out where everything needs to be connected. (You can see the red links in the picture.) You may need to walk a bit and then retighten the links as each chain is designed to fit multiple tires of different sizes. This is easily accomplished by disconnecting a connection and tugging on it more firmly before reconnecting. When I installed them on my 2007 Honda CR-V, I did it in minutes for each tire. While other people were stuck in a snowy/icy parking lot in Big Bear, I was able to get out on my zip lines without a single problem.
