Review on πŸ“Š Enhanced EXTECH MO280 Pinless Moisture Meter for Accurate Readings by Richard Lamptey

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Very good gauge at a great price

I bought this gauge to temporarily replace my more expensive Tramex gauge which broke after years of use. This device costs about $300. I'm a professional home inspector on the Jersey Shore. Having recently been hit by Hurricane Sandy, I was in dire need of an inexpensive replacement for measuring humidity in flooded and semi-flooded homes. This calculator really surprised me. For about half the price of my Tramex it worked perfectly. When I first used it, the meter correctly read varying degrees of moisture on a quality maple hardwood floor and drywall. This relatively cheap meter saved my client tens of thousands in future repair costs and was instrumental (no pun intended) in demonstrating how a 'so-called' reputable restoration contractor failed to perform proper mold remediation and drying. I would have given it 5 stars but gave it 4 instead just because it makes an annoying beeping sound when checking for moisture readings. Once it acquires accurate readings, it will stop beeping. You can clearly see the digital gauge changing until it adjusts to its percentage. Like a digital thermometer placed in cold and then hot water, it takes a few seconds to determine its temperature, but with an audible signal. As a professional home inspector who relies on the right equipment, I highly recommend this product. Time will tell when I'll get my Tramex back from the refurb if I'm going to use it as my main unit, but so far I'm very happy with it. Definitely a great buy.
