Review on Topeak TT2543 Survival Gear Box by Greg Bellman

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I don't usually write long reviews, but this is a great product!

External dimensions (excluding attachment) is approx. The metal clasp on the box is simply to prevent the box from being opened accidentally. The actual lock is on the button, which closes with a metal latch. Without pressing this button, the box will NOT open even with the metal latch open. About tools. I bought the whole set for 20 euros. That's almost the price of a compact Park Tool chain shifter. I only need one circuit breaker, but when it arrived it replaced ALL my tools that I carry with me on the road and trail. The hex keys and torx bits are coated to fit snugly and provide enough torque. The tire levers are lightweight but strong enough to take my 26x2.10 tires off. I'm not sure about the strength of the wrenches, but I doubt I'll use them. Comes with a set of glue-free patches and sandpaper which is a plus. What I really like is the removable compartment for needles and chain links. It snaps them into place and keeps them secure. The chain cutting tool turned out to be much better than expected. I don't plan on using it as a mini hammer but breaking and replacing 5 chains when I got it was enough to get my vote. Single speed chains, 8 speed and 9 speed. You use a #5 hex wrench as the knob to turn. There is also a chain holder that comes in very handy when connecting chains. The box itself seems sturdy enough for rough rides. It even had extra space for my Presta to Shrader adapter. You must return everything EXACTLY as it came, but a small diagram on the back of the box will make this step easier. The attachment is pretty good too. I only have 2 options for my bike: handlebars or seat post. Surprisingly this thing fits my Thomson Elite 31.6mm! It has 2 stretchable plastic collars that can be attached to round objects and an adjustable velcro strap in the middle. Please note that I think if you mount it on a larger diameter seatpost these two rings will end up stretching making it difficult to install it on something thinner later. With the velcro closure I wouldn't worry if one of the collars breaks. He will still hold out. Finally a box for quick attachment. To be honest, even if you try to remove it without installing it, you'll have to move around a bit. It's NOT HEAVY at all and I don't think this box can fly out of its mount. You're going to have to seriously jump on some hard rocks and at that point I think you'll lose your suspension before you lose it. Pooch. Overall very well thought out in terms of design and functionality. I will update durability later, but only if there are problems. Thanks for reading my 2 cents and have a safe trip!
