Review on 🚀 Humminbird 408390-1 NMEA2000 Black Box with Ethernet: Advanced Networking for Marine Electronics by Bernard Her

Really pointless for what you get.

I have a Helix 7 Mega SI g3n unit and Minn Kota Terrova with IPilot Link and a brand new Honda BF150, expects at least the same information I'm getting from Honda OEM sensor (trim/temp engine/ oil/hours/tach), all I get from Helix is the tach and engine temp. The money spent to put everything together correctly is just not worth the money. So you can only connect a trolling motor to a Helix 7 with a wired adapter, but you can't do the same with a motor, it requires that 'black box'. both send/receive NMEA data, but you need this thing. And don't even think you can fit a trolling motor and a motor in the Helix 7 at the same time! It requires another device, your NMEA hub! I love my trolling motor but this helix is a flop in my book, at least for the g3n model, I think if I had waited I wouldn't have needed all that junk with a g4n that supposedly already has real NMEA port installed. I guess I'll go back to Garmin and just not worry about a trolling motor mesh.

Pros
  • Electronics
Cons
  • Hard to tell
