The lens takes very sharp photos, although flare and ghosting are definitely a problem when shooting with a light source (e.g. the sun) in the frame. This can be mitigated with creative hood placement. The lens body is durable, all metal and glass, with a plastic hood and cap. The lid is slightly drilled at the back to accommodate the overhang of the large front element. This means other lens caps will not fit unless modified. I don't have the same diameter filter to test fit, although I imagine it will be tight when it actually clears the element. I've mounted a larger diameter filter on an adapter ring and haven't had any gap issues. To avoid this problem, the flange could be lengthened around the lens. I really like this lens given some flaws I found and it will find wide use on my Fuji.
