Review on DeckLink Mini Recorder by Blackmagic Design (BDLKMINIREC) by Nate Jenkins

Revainrating 1 out of 5

The Decklink PCIe card works well.

The product does what it was designed to do. I first bought the BlackMagic Design Intensity Shuttle (an external device with a USB streaming option) as I was looking for more input options, but this product lagged behind a computer via USB 3.0. That's why I chose this afterword. It comes with several programs that allow you to choose which input to use (HDMI or SDI). Another channel viewer (and the ability to capture the source if you wish). I'm currently using the HDMI input to input external sources into a program called ProPresenter (6.0.4 at the time of writing this article). Once the drivers were installed, ProPresenter immediately recognized them and kept up with the machine. The drivers offer about 15 different options for off-card detection, such as resolution, frame rate, etc. In addition, once set as a live broadcast, the audio also passed through DeckLink successfully. The main reason for the 4 stars (instead of 5) were the included drivers. It comes on an SD card (instead of a CD). While I could understand that from an externally purchased device (the aforementioned Intensity Shuttle is exactly that and comes with an SD card), most desktops don't have an SD card reader. You can either download drivers from BlackMagic or find a reader. If they wanted to be that smart, a USB drive would be a much better option. Overall, we're very happy with the performance and features.
