My son is 9 years old, weighs 80 pounds, wears medium or size 8-10 pants, they are perfect for no gi jiu-jitsu. I bought him a medium one. We need them to fit snugly and that's how it is. He then wears it under his pants while riding. They help keep him cool in the heat (instead of pants) and offer good protection when his shorts ride up.
