UPDATE: I have received 7 different emails in the last week claiming to be from the WavLink representative in China. The emails state that "poor product reviews have negatively impacted the sale of our products." I have been offered various bribes ($15-$30 + free router) if I want to remove my negative review on a Revain product. My answer is below. ---------------------------------- Original Rating -------- ------ --I am a networker. I've been building networks for almost 30 years. I understand that a Chinese-made network device with no name cannot be compared to a well-known line of products. But I expect it to offer some basic functionality. This router is relatively inexpensive. I decided to give it a try. Based on my experience I would say this is a cheap option if you want a basic Wi-Fi router and are network ready enough that you don't need a user manual. This is a BASIC wireless router. Expect nothing more. Details follow. And consider a few minor annoyances I've identified: I need to find answers. * No MAC address filtering * The router often does not respond to the built-in URL (wifi.wavlink.com) after a reboot. This makes it difficult for management tools to load after a reboot. * The DHCP server appears to randomly reset the default IP address range or a different IP address range on reboot, making it difficult to guess the new IP address if the embedded URL doesn't work. decide. I often had to rely on netcat just to find the admin tools website again. There doesn't seem to be a way to communicate between the internal network and the external network. This is the ALL REASON for using the router as a wireless client. Due to an issue with the wireless client, I contacted WavLink customer service to provide a user manual. The first CS representative I spoke to assured me that everything I needed to know was in the online FAQ. However, a search of the FAQ turned up NO LINKS to my product. The next CS rep I spoke to insisted that a user manual existed but couldn't tell me where to find it. Based on the long waits after each question, it turned out that the CS representative had no information about this product. They finally admitted to questioning other CS representatives and searching the website for answers. He finally explained that he couldn't tell me how to fix the problem, but if I opened up my network and gave him access to a Windows or Mac computer on my network, he could fix the router. Because of his proven ignorance of this router, there was no way I would give him the "Keys to the Kingdom". As we continued talking, I realized that he had no idea how to solve the problem, just intended to tinker with it and see if he could come up with something. Because he was denied full access to my network, he started making fun of me and my "unreasonable paranoia". Finally, I asked to speak to another agent. He refused. I asked to speak to the supervisor and he explained that he didn't need to put me through to the supervisor. Overall, I found Wavlink's customer support options to be a huge waste of time. I ended up experimenting with the WavLink line of products. . They are not worth the cheap cost in my opinion and the customer service is useless. Both routers are being returned and I will avoid their products in the future.
