Uses AA batteries that are not tight. I had the smaller version but the AAA batteries were packed tightly together and when one of them leaked the pair became cemented in the grip and ruined the tool. I chose this model and the larger handle allows you to remove AA batteries even if they leak. When not in use, I take out the batteries.
