During the garage renovation we painted the wood around the garage door mahogany. The brown doors didn't look good against the rest of the garage. Instead of swapping out the doors for wooden ones, I decided to try this first. The base coat is easy to apply like paint. For the final layer, I struggled with getting the right amount of water on the handmat. The coating was thin and runny due to too much water. Not enough water and the mat will just smudge the paint. I decided to use a brush for the finish coat. I kept the brush wet with a spray bottle. I used long horizontal strokes. Both doors took a total of eight hours to make, but they look fantastic. My neighbors are jealous. If you have the time and patience, it's worth it.
