My experience with Xperia

Buy this device at your own risk! Terrible customer service! I bought this device directly from the Sony website. So it's a long story. I pre-ordered and bought back my Xperia 1 II for release at the end of July 2020. I was impatient and excited as this will be my first Sony phone. I enjoyed the phone and it worked fine. The camera is great! For those who really want the detailed control of a professional camera on their mobile phone, look no further! It can even take raw photos. The Cinema Pro and Photo Pro apps work well and showcase the many features of these cameras. I liked the feeling in my hands. The tall and thin body is unique and is great for watching 4k content. There are also useful features built in that make navigating this large device easier. The battery lasted me almost a whole day of continuous use. I liked the feature that slowed down the charging speed when charging overnight. This feature ensures the phone doesn't overcharge, instead slowing down the charging process and hitting 100% in the morning at my chosen time. Things were going well until mid-October (less than three months of phone ownership). Software problems started. The phone hung up in a complicated way. So bad I couldn't even turn it off. I had to force shutdown every time this happened so I could get it working again. So I contacted Sony support to solve the problems. They gave me the typical run of factory resetting the phone, resetting networks, uninstalling apps and all the usual stuff. None of this worked so on October 27th 2020 I did everything I could to send the phone to a Sony repair center to have the unit fixed. They replaced the phone's motherboard and sent it back. I got it back about ten days later on November 6th. But this time the phone has a whole new problem that didn't exist before. Now it could not read/recognize the SIM card. This made the device unusable! I submitted it to fix an issue and it was returned to me with a brand new version! So I contacted Sony again and sent the phone back for repair on November 11, 2020. At the time of this review, 12/15/2020, I still have not returned the device. After much haggling with their support team I found that the IMEI of my phone's new motherboard was not registered on my cellular network and that others were having a similar issue. So, after a whole month of waiting for this to be fixed. Seems like Sony would rather let me sit here and wait in limbo and then come up with any kind of results. Sony even seems to refuse to provide a new replacement device or refund money for a defective device. I think an easy solution would be to send me a new device with the IMEI registered. Now here I am without my $1200 unit and unfortunately trying to work with a customer to get a replacement or refund for what appears to be a faulty unit. Especially after I shipped it once and it came back with a brand new and possibly worse problem. I enjoyed the phone when it worked. However, the presence of serious problems with such young software combined with the lack of support from Sony left a bad taste in the mouth. It's hard for me to recommend this phone as I don't want anyone to have to put up with what I'm doing now. It may be some time before I get a Sony phone again. Here is my experience with the Sony Xperia 1 II.
