Review on 1100W Greater Goods Kitchen Sous Vide: Ultra Quiet Precision Cooking Machine with Brushless Motor by Melody Kershaw

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Easy to use and accurate

Full Disclosure: I received this sous vide plate in exchange for a review. This is the first sous vide oven we have ever used so I have no comparison to it. The interface is extremely simple - plug in, adjust temperature, click, adjust cooking time, click, adjust cooking minutes, click and you're done. That. The only unintuitive things are holding the button for 2 seconds to turn off, 4 seconds to switch from Fahrenheit to Celsius, and 6 seconds to calibrate (see accuracy test below). I recommend keeping your finger on the center of the wheel when pressing, as you're less likely to damage the setting you've just chosen. The device heated 4 liters of water from 64 degrees Fahrenheit to 183 degrees Fahrenheit in 23 minutes. It holds up to 16 liters. I tested temperature accuracy using the ThermoWorks Thermapen Mk4, our kitchen temperature benchmark. The two converged within 1 degree, so the temperature you set is what you get. I didn't need to calibrate the device I received from Revain. The device works absolutely silently. If you exert yourself, you can hear a very faint sound of circulating water. It is very well built including the clip and comes with a 5 year guarantee. Note that after the timer expires, the device continues to heat up and displays the elapsed time since the timer was set as a negative number. Does not turn off after the timer expires. I'm not a chef, but overall I was very satisfied.

Pros
  • Wide temperature range: almost 150 degrees in this sous vide mode, from 68 to 203 degrees Fahrenheit. Covers all the bases for delicious slow cooking.
Cons
  • Infinitely Sluggish
