If you think you need it, it's worth buying!
I have these because my son (4 years old) and his father like to build buildings like towers and houses and vehicles with big platforms. Various parts from the set prevented them from building bigger and higher. These bases are perfect. I tried looking for similar parts through Lego but couldn't find many of them so I decided to spend my money on this set. My son loves the color variations and sometimes just incorporates them into flat landscapes with a few bushes and trees.
