Review on Caran D'ache Metal 0.7 Mechanical ✏️ Pencil Gray: Sleek and Sturdy Writing Instrument (0844-005) by Jennifer Roberts

Revainrating 4 out of 5

easy accessibility, uniqueness in a small body

This review is for the Caran D'ache Metal line of pencils and pens. They are made in Switzerland, so you pay for shipping, some amount of "printing" and a working product. Considering they cost around $20 or less, this is a decent deal. The pens have high capacity cartridges and the pencils come with a supply of refills. Avoiding the curved contours and bulges of the soft plastic/rubber grip that requires no fumbling, you return to the design of the Ticonderoga hex key. They have simple and reliable metal clips. Even the security service at the airport didn't turn it down (despite its all-metal nature). They are very beautiful, very high quality and very unassuming. Those are positive things for me. Some of them have graphic ornaments. My favorite is the orange pen with little symbols referencing Switzerland and the story of William Tell. Cons: There is nothing special about the pencil like a mechanical pencil other than its solid metal construction and the simplicity/elegance of the design. It has a tiny eraser with a cap that is easy to lose. It's more of a fad than a standout writing tool, but as such it's acceptable. Caran d'Ache makes no effort to sell identical sets of these pens/pencils, although you can find several of the same colour.

Pros
  • Hands-free operation
Cons
  • Very expensive
