Review on 🔥 Honeywell HZ-789 EnergySmart Electric Heated Radiator Whole Room Heater, Black, 24.45"H x 9.06"D x 13.74"W (HZ789) by Darius Slater

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Toast oven with excellent digital controls!

We got this a little over a month ago, mainly to provide a little heat bonus in our basement office which is open plan and considerably cooler than the rest of the house no matter what. This is how it is without a separate climate control system! We had a similar block that worked great but actually belonged to someone else. When we moved we returned it but this oil heater was still working after more than 5 years so we decided to use the same style again for our office. Although I saw the exact same model being sold at Revain, we chose this type for the slimmer profile, wheels (we have tiled floors and mats) and digital controls. We couldn't be happier. This heater has warmed up our cold office this winter without increasing heating bills because instead of overheating the whole house to warm up the office a bit, we're effectively heating the place we need it most while turning the standard thermostat on- and turn off. We've been using it every day since we bought it with no problems. ADVANTAGES: - It heats up small spaces (like bedrooms) very quickly! Big rooms are slower and open big rooms are even slower, but it's probably still cheaper than heating an entire house! - Good digital controls. You can set the unit of measure to Low or High (low is more energy efficient), or select 65, 70, 75, or 80 degrees. You can also choose to have the device run continuously at low, high, 65, 70, 75, or 80 degrees, or you can set timers for 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, or 12 hours. While I can't say we use this on the low setting often (low will be 65 degrees most of the time) we're happy with it as is, but you need to know how it works if you're trying to be extra. -Cheap on things -Sturdy, suitcase-like handle with wheels and decent wheels. The wheels could be better (e.g. bigger, not plastic) but they work great on hard floor surfaces and also work great on my carpets. The device even jumps from tile to carpet without any problems. I don't have super thick or shaggy carpets now, but this is just a reference example, unlike people who have written that wheels don't work on carpets. -Good security features. The device switches off if it gets too hot or tips over. Ours shut down one day when I was almost 100% sure I hadn't set a time for it to stop working. It was midday when I usually leave it on, as opposed to nighttime in the bedroom when I just want to warm up before the comforters turn brown! - Pretty safe to touch - so good for pets or kids. Yes it's a bit warm but for reference I just touched my metal fin after running it in 75 degrees for the last 5 straight hours. Because the room is always cold, it works almost continuously, but the metal is not hot yet. I touched hotter pot handles that were supposedly safe. My dog and cat checked it out and while they decided it didn't need a nose inspection I suspect even a child would touch it once and probably not again but if they did. Nothing special as it's just not that hot. Not easy to tip over. My dog is blind and hit him a few times when he wasn't moving slowly and noticed the heat before colliding with him. I witnessed the accident but the heater didn't tip over or even wobble and of course my dog was fine. I can also wiggle the handle and try to rip it off and see that the heater is very, very stable. Just generally very safe. The directions say not to be used on or near carpet, but I used it on carpet many years ago. I use this every day about 12 inches or less from the wall and/or carpets. The company needs to protect itself against possible accidents and misuse of the product - these days it's all a lawsuit. But oil heaters are much safer than traditional spiral heaters in this regard. However, use your common sense like you would use a candle. Check your device regularly and do not leave it unattended! I have no cons for this unit or for oil filled heaters in general, but I would advise you to always use common sense. Read reviews to assess the overall quality of the product. Check the heater before use, on first use and periodically. And don't leave it on when you go to the movies. Most likely, everything will be fine - no power fires and oil splashes. Note: I'm sorry that the most helpful rating on this article is bad because the user didn't seem to know how the controls worked. If he actually set the device to 65 degrees, the heater will turn off as soon as the thermostat reaches 65 degrees. Now he might find 65 degrees sweaty hot weather, but I think it's much more likely that he was looking at a 65 degree thermostat reading and set the device on low speed, rather than seeing a 65 degree thermostat reading and the device set to 65 degrees. These are two different settings, it's very easy to tell the difference. Maybe he was just tired and grumpy? I just wanted to mention this as it's unfair that a product has received a brilliant BAD rating because someone hasn't read the instruction manual or even the easy to read digital dials. Maybe his year-old machine was very different, but mine looks like the photo I've attached to this review. Please see how the current temperature compares to the temperature settings you can select. Also note that at the top of the display you can see that my device is in standby mode as the room temperature is around 75 degrees. As a result, it no longer heats up, at least until the temperature drops. Hope this helps and good luck!
