My old fan kept going between volume and silence and during boot I got a fan error message. A defective fan and heat build-up can cause my computer to become very slow and unresponsive. This fan was identical to the original fan in the laptop except for the top plate. My laptop has cooling fins and a heatsink permanently attached to the top fan plate used to cool the CPU. This fan does not have cooling fins or heatsinks attached to the top plate, but the footprint of both top plates is the same, so I was able to swap the top plate from my old fan for the new fan. The fan comes with new thermal paste that is used between the heatsink and the CPU to help with heat dissipation, so this was a pleasant surprise. The fan is quiet and works great so far.
