Review on WD_BLACK SN750 Internal Gaming Solid by Ray Richards

I bought this new SN750 NVMe drive to migrate my OS from a Crucial SSD. This drive is noticeably faster. Installation was easy, but I had trouble cloning my operating system to this drive without corruption errors. I ended up backing up my respective files and reinstalling Windows. Because the motherboard or processor was not changed, Windows recognized my computer and I didn't have to repurchase the operating system. Other than that, and it's not really the disc's fault, everything else ran smoothly. Pros: - The drive is fast: the box says sequential read/write up to 3400 MB/s. However, I found the speed to be around 2900 MB/s without cache improvements. Still very fast. When caching in 4GB RAM (which is what I usually use) the read/write speed was around 8000MB/s. See attached reference images for runs without extensions and with extensions. For reference, if I cache my Crucial SSD where the OS used to be, the average speed would be around 800MB/s. Temperatures are stable: my motherboard includes an m.2 heatsink that I use for this. The m.2 slot on my board for the main NVMe slot is just below the graphics card. So when this starts giving off a little heat, this thing gets a little warm too. Even if the temperatures are in very respectable ranges. After doing my tests for the hard drive, the average temperature was 41°C and the highest was 44°C as seen in the picture. After a gaming session, the peak temperature I observed for the drive was 55C, but typically stayed below 48C. Price: 3D NAND drive prices are falling and will likely continue to fall. This time last year, a 500GB drive was about $250. I got this for $120. These will likely come off a little more from there. All good news for us consumers. CONS: My only downside would be the issues I had while cloning disks, most of which aren't really related to this disk but more to do with the cloning software and my operating system. My final thoughts on this are: This drive is very close in performance to the Samsung 970 Plus drive. They are also about the same price. Samsung and these are the fastest drives you can buy at this price point and they're essentially interchangeable. The SN750 is vastly superior to the SSD, and the differences are noticeable in everyday use. In my experience, WD products have been reliable and I have not had a history of drive failures. So I would recommend it to anyone who wants it.
