15W BT Mesh, not bad for the price, mostly

I bought a set of 4 15W BT Mesh versions and 4 more will follow in the future. Installation was pretty easy. They have a threaded base on a plug with black and white wires. Note, however, that there is no land here at all. There's no ground wire, and with an all-plastic body, there's simply no way to ground anything. It would be nice if there was an extra pigtail with connector for the people doing the wiring, but instead we have to cut off the screw connector at the end. The springs could be a bit stronger but so far they seem to be holding up well. Set up was surprisingly quick. Once turned on, the lights slowly began to flash and change colors, and the app connected and accepted all four in about 30 seconds. Additional note: both the app and the instructions have QR codes on the boxes for a download link - there were no actual instructions for the lights in the box. The panel controller is a different story. It's only for what it is, but mounting options are pretty limited. I was hoping it would fit in a standard electrical box, but it doesn't. There's a black backplate that it snaps onto, looks like it's just meant to be screwed into a wall or something, with just enough cutout for the bar to fit the wall. This really shows that you just need to stick it in the hole and tape it with double sided tape or screw it like that. As this is powered via live wiring the only RIGHT way is to stick the box in the wall and then cut out enough material to give you a workspace but not so much that there is nothing left to attach to . . I can't imagine how messy it would be trying to tie this to existing work. There are pictures here: https://www.amazon.com/Wall-Mounted-Controller-Touchscreen-Bluetooth-Downlight/dp/B07W5M61DK/?th=1 showing a wall mount and giving the impression that a standard square box would do this doing would work, but the mounting holes on the baseplate are nowhere near the same as the existing standard box holes I've found. Luckily I'm doing this as a new job and I'm not done yet, so I have time to think of a better solution. From a performance standpoint, they work great. I haven't integrated with Google yet as I'm pre-installing them in a shed that doesn't have an internet connection yet. The app offers basically the same functionality as most traditional smart lights, with color features already present such as flashing and pulsing with speed and brightness control. Music, as mentioned in another review, only works with local music on your device. However, it does have a "microphone" feature that could theoretically have a similar effect when playing background music. Still, it's a nice party trick, but it's not meant to give you a disco feel - there's no rhyme or reason for the colors he picks from your list, it doesn't mean he goes white on the snare beats, other colors on the bass etc. Just pick a color and make it flash on a recognizable beat on the next beat. It's fun to play, but that's about it. They also give you the ability to create your own scenes and even take pictures with a phone in one color which is then attempted to match. The caveat here is that if you pick a color and it changes, well, your entire room is that color, which also makes it impossible to then pick a DIFFERENT color without reverting to the default white first. Speaking of white - the app gives you a color wheel with cool and warm white in the middle. There's a separate CCT function that lets you fine-tune your desired white color temperature. So if cool is to white and warm is to yellow/orange, you can use the CCT option to adjust them. I'm happy with them. They do exactly what I expected them to do and for the price they should be ok. Sure, they might not be as fully integrated as Hue or others, but they're a lot more expensive per bulb. They're bright enough, the color options seem pretty good and close enough to accuracy (the red is mostly red, not the dull pink I've seen on some bulbs), and they remember your last settings when you arrive. back and turn them back on, even with a regular light switch. Slightly heavier springs, bare wire pigtails, and an improved mounting adapter plate for the panel controller would be welcome changes, but for the price they work well.
