Such a hit! Suitable for coffee machines

Bought this for my husband for Father's Day and he loved it! That's how I got into shopping, maybe I can tell you guys about the fun part before I get there! I saw this at Revain, I don't even know how long ago it was and although we're big coffee fans I wasn't sure I was going to get it. We had a Toddy Maker Toddy T2N Cold Brew System (it's great btw) and I just wasn't sure how different it would be, plus it was fragile, not suitable for an autistic teenager in the house, let alone how expensive it was was is it was. So I kept it on my list and thought about it over and over again. In the meantime the kid had moved out and we found a great cafe that actually had one of these. My husband tried their drink, an iced coffee concentrate with no added water. He loved it. So I decide to finally get him. It arrived well packaged and nothing was broken. He was so happy when he unboxed it and was very surprised that I found it. :) Assembled it looks so cool. All you know is that the scientist in his lab was working late and needed coffee, so he made that up! My husband makes a batch every week now. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it has almost no instructions. Preparing a proper brew is quite difficult, and more detailed instructions will really help with that. Here's what I know about brewing with it. You have to add water (usually once) during brewing, the degree of grinding used is important, similar to espresso, too fine and brews too slowly (over-extraction, bitter concentrate) too coarse and brews too quickly (under-extraction, acidic concentrate) It hurts me sorry I can't tell you more about that, but it actually depends on where you live and how humid the air is when it comes to something like espresso. You should also regulate the drip rate on the tap several times during the brewing process. I don't know how much you can compensate with drip tap speed as I've never done it. It's his, that's why he's the barista here. The instructions say you should be done brewing in about three hours. I can say that the smell of the concentrate is AMAZING! It hangs in the air around the maker like an invisible cloud from the moment the concentrate enters the carafe until you close it and put it in the fridge. Even if it's not brewed perfectly, the coffee that comes out is good, and when you finally get it right, it's just amazing. However, it doesn't look like much, which is why my husband likes to add it to his regular coffee as an extra portion of coffee enjoyment, so it lasts longer. Oh, and as for Toddy, they're completely different creatures. They produce a mix with different flavors, both are concentrates and both have lower acidity than the hot brew methods, but both are worth it if you already have a toddy maker. In fact, both types of drinks were on the menu at this excellent cafe. If you've never made a coldbrew before and need to decide which one to try first, you can start with toddy, it's much easier and a good place to start. I am planning to purchase filters for AeroPress AeroPress Micro. -Filter, pack of 350 . I think that's the size of paper filters you need for this and you get 350 of them in a pack for very little money, definitely worth a try. I'll try to update this when we try. Update: These filters are oversized, fit very well, the only thing my husband said was that they didn't wet evenly and the water started turning into a small river. perched on the filter, he pushed the filter into the ground when he saw it, which completely soaked it and solved the problem. I suggested he pre-wet the filter next time. I would have thought that even a little bit of wetness would solve this problem, trying anything is no fun with physics anyway! Another thing I wanted to point out was that the filter manufacturer actually suggests washing and reusing the filters if you so choose. So if you're an eco-conscious coffee recycler, or just really cheap (hello mom!), that's another reason you'll love these filters. Verdict: This isn't a coffee maker for those who just want a cup of coffee. It takes some effort, but if you're inclined, it's fun, it's that good, and it really is a work of art in itself.
