Lesson number 1 learned with this add-on card is that it doesn't work reliably with a Solid State Drive (SSD) because the SSD draws too much power. I started building the board first and the Pi was expecting to use a spare SSD, but I've been struggling the whole time. Sometimes the drive showed up, most of the time it didn't. When connected, the Pi ran for an hour, then the entire system froze and required a power cycle. I have a 5V 4A power supply which is recommended but this combination will never work. I was ready to return the product but then I saw how much power an SSD consumes compared to a regular HDD. I have a 1TB Seagate 2.5" SSD and it draws 1.6A! A replacement 2.5" WD 500GB hard drive only draws 0.7A. After installing the hard drive the system never had any problems and ran for a week without any issues. Keep this in mind if you plan to build your own media server or similar Pi - create project.
