Before attempting this repair, watch the YouTube video on replacing the home button first. Also, keep the right tools on hand to properly complete these repairs. Replacing a part is fairly easy if you have experience disassembling electronic equipment and are comfortable with component-level repairs. No tools are supplied with this item. The problem I initially had was getting my iPhone to recognize the replacement part. I am currently using iOS 14.2. You should normally see a pop-up message that says "Can't activate Touch ID" when booting up your phone after installing a replacement device. It worked for me for about 5 minutes. I restarted my phone and it stopped working. After reading additional reviews from others, I figured I must have received a defective part. I kept reading other reviews that also said some tried it multiple times before it worked. It took me several attempts on my part to carefully disconnect and reconnect the micro connector and then restart the phone over and over again until this pop up message appeared. I must have gotten the combination right on my last try as somehow all the pins on the microconnection lined up correctly. I finally got the popup I was waiting for. I restarted the phone a few more times to make sure the home button was still working. With the phone powered on, I carefully reassembled the case, making sure all the ribbon cables were neatly tucked away. After the build I tested the phone with a few more restarts to ensure the home button was still working. I will update my post if and when the part stops working again.
