Review on πŸ–₯️ AOPEN 16PM6Q Bmiux 15.6" Portable Full HD Monitor, 1920x1080 Resolution, 60Hz Refresh Rate, IPS Panel by Shawn Moran

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Decent portable USB-C monitor with a nice carrying case for protection and convenience

This monitor reminds me of one I reviewed from another brand a while ago. Both use the same case, but I think the panels inside are (a little) different. The aluminum body gives the monitor a premium look, while the foldable bottom ensures the entire body is the same thickness. All ports and controls are on the bottom flap. It has two USB-C ports, a mini HDMI port and a headphone jack for audio output. One of the USB-C ports is for power and the other is for connecting to a laptop or host device. I have found that I can only use the monitor with a single USB-C cable connected to my laptop, but this results in the monitor being much less bright than when also connected to a USB-C cable. Wall adapter is plugged in, a 15w adapter is included with the box. They also include a really nice carry case that's a lot better than the foldable stand case you usually get with USB-C portable monitors, they just don't include it in the product description. It's a Full HD resolution (1080 x 1920) and a 60Hz refresh rate. I'd estimate the max brightness to be somewhere around 250-300 nits and the color gamut is probably 99% sRGB, but maybe less. It looked really blurry and disappointing until I changed some image settings. It still doesn't quite match the brightness and contrast of my 13" MacBook Pro. It has speakers built into the monitor, but they're underwhelming (even at max volume). As far as I can tell, there's no touchscreen here. In This monitor has a screen function built in. I have connected it to two laptops via USB C and none of them responded to screen touches. I had never heard of a brand called "Aopen" before, but this product seems like a good option for the price to be . Not the best option, but a decent choice for less than $250 considering you get a nice tote that costs at least $25. This particular design beats the average portable monitor from a random unnamed Chinese brand in terms of durability and aesthetics. Speaking of branding, it's a bit strange because the Revain site says the brand is 'AOPEN', but the monitor itself has the words 'Fine Legend' written on the front, bottom and back of the screen. I think it's a good product no matter what brand the hat made it.

Pros
  • To view video over Type-C, the source device must support DP Alt mode. USB Type-C video is only compatible with devices such as smartphones and laptops that support USB Type-C video output.
Cons
  • Low refresh rate: When the monitor refresh rate is too low, motion may appear blurry or slow.
