Review on Portable Pocket Multimeter PM100 by Tempo Communications - Auto πŸ“ Ranging, 6000 Count - Measures AC/DC Voltage, Current, Resistance, Continuity & Capacitance by Matt Venable

Very small, useful around the house

I've had several of these little multimeters over the years. Extech makes a pretty good tool that I used until it broke. The big problem with this type of meter is that the cables are not detachable. If they are damaged or broken, they are harder to replace. However, that's my only real complaint. It is an automatic range finder that tests conventional AC and DC current, resistance and continuity, and also includes capacitance, electric field and frequency. It is powered by a small CR battery that can be easily replaced by unscrewing the back cover. For the casual homeowner who may not have used a DMM and doesn't know which setting to select, this meter attempts to automatically detect what you're trying to do when you first turn it on. It starts with excitement. So if you're just trying to see if you have AC or DC voltage, it will try to show that first. If you measure resistance across wires, it will detect and switch to resistance. Of course you can switch between all modes manually by pressing a button. It's the simplest multimeter I've ever used and one of the smallest, but it feels reliable and accurate, and it's small enough to take almost anywhere. The multimeter comes in a nice soft zip case that is much larger. than that. Protects well, but you don't realize how compact the meter is until you take it out of the case. It's so thin and light. The only feature you may not need is the ability to measure current. through the chain. Otherwise it does everything I need for my main hobby, mostly measuring DC and resistance, and sometimes I need to test AC as well. Good meter, higher quality than I expected and as long as the wires don't break it will last.
