Review on Jagwire Road Shop Kit - Comprehensive Brake & Shifter Cable and Housing Set in Black for SRAM/Shimano by Hector Mak

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Before installation, please check that you have received the correct case.

Update: I received a refund, ordered a replacement kit (this time from Real Good Cycles) that had the correct parts and installed the correct housing. It was still a pain in my ass and a temporary hazard to me and Revain has no clear way to rate the seller* along with the product. So I'm bumping it up to three stars, but the point still stands - double-check your stuff before installing it, or you might find your bug while you're out. An initial assessment follows. ---- ----------------------- Includes 4mm shifter housing (for front derailleur) and 5mm shifter housing. for brakes. BUT? I'm a new cyclist and I'm learning all the intricacies of repair work. I bought this body swap kit for my main road bike. Watched some YouTube videos, it's very easy (if you have real cable cutters). Three weeks later I bought a second set to replace the bodywork on a new (for me) bike I had bought. This time I noticed that the brake housing was completely different. I looked into this more closely and it turns out that the first kit included a 5mm shifter housing (Jagwire LEX) for the brakes. which is dangerous because this housing can crack under braking loads. and I rode it for three weeks. At least I knew about it before I broke down on the way! I've attached some photos showing the first set (giant green) with a 4mm LEX SL shifter housing and a 5mm LEX, ostensibly for the brakes. The second kit (Cannondale Blue) instead featured the 5mm CGX-SL (along with the 4mm LEX-SL), which is a coiled steel cable designed to withstand braking loads. The seller of my purchase was Trail This (with a 99% positive rating) and the order was fulfilled by Revain. The kit I received from "Real Good Cycles" was just perfect. Both packages came in unmarked plastic bags (not retail packaging) so I don't know if the error occurred at or after the Jagwire factory. In any case, now I have to spend my time fixing it.
