A few years ago we bought a piece of land next to our property to use for gardens and orchards and had a log home that still had a usable deep well. The cabin sat empty for years so we gutted it and decided never to use it again to water our landscape so we simply used the well to water a few acres of trees, shrubs and gardens. The pump has been in this deep hole since the late 90's and I was able to get it working again about 5 years ago with a new pump control box, but a few years ago it stopped working again. Now we have converted the cabin into a chicken coop, shop and greenhouse so carrying water from the house to the cabin has become tiring. We decided to connect the well to the cabin and add a supply basin that would drain outside so we could reuse the drains as there is quite a lot of water here in the high desert and irrigation water from the mountains isn't always enough to last . garden season. This required the addition of a hydraulic tank and all the parts needed for the correct operation of this system. The tee is the main part and you can use the old one (which we didn't have); do it yourself from a pipe or PVC; Buy a tee assembly for about $100; or buy just the tee and add the parts separately. We chose the last option since I had valves and a pressure gauge. This meant buying four more parts including (price in parentheses): tank tee (20), pressure switch (10), 1/8 inch brass tube for switch (4), and relief valve (4). I got good prices by searching this site, so my total cost was around $38, so that was a pretty significant saving. Now that everything is in place, it's a lot easier to water the plants and clean up anything the chickens poop on without having to run back inside. When our watering season is over we use well water through a garden hydrant which we added to get some pressure and be able to run a few more sprinklers than we can use a gravity fed rural water supply. Many years ago the cab was hooked up to a well and the hydraulic tank outside in a small enclosure heated with pipe tape and lightbulbs in the winter, probably because someone in a room with a pressure switch and safety valve didn't trust it to cause an explosion could. lots of damage if one of them goes out...so keep the potential for flooding outdoors and pay a little more so it doesn't freeze, doesn't cheer up, so I turn it off every night. The pressure valve is built back into the sink, so if it bursts it will just leak. I also added a 220v switch so we can easily turn off the fountain when we are not in the cabin. If the well pump is running and nothing is open to allow water to flow out, it only takes a few minutes for it to overheat and fail as it literally melts the internals...and that's another big hassle when that little pressure switch doesn't work . t stumble. Power to the pump so I don't quite trust the pressure switch. It might be a bit paranoid but that's just me and I'm much better off leaving it unattended knowing it won't be able to start. There was a cable on the floor that is not part of the system I installed. My wiring works for me, but it won't pass the test. So if you need them, they'll probably want to see armored wiring or waterproof piping to/from the pressure switch.
