So uncomfortable! I broke the middle brush on my Hoover SteamVac carpet cleaner with Clean Surge (F5914900) and without the middle brush the other brushes won't spin. After several attempts to fix it myself, I had to buy a replacement. This is the correct replacement for F5914900 (ASIN: B00009R66F) and snaps into place very easily. I managed to do it without instructions. It just takes a little common sense. It literally took less than 5 seconds. The brushes work perfectly when inserted. You have to keep them clean in order for them to work the way they're supposed to. I think a lot of people let them get dirty and they break, won't move, or don't clean well. The block should be removable for easy cleaning. A little rubbing and rinsing is all you need to get it clean. The only problems I have are that 1. This thing breaks. I would also like to do it with metal parts. My guess is that Hoover doesn't make them with metal parts to avoid rusting (the parts come into contact with water) or they need to be replaced from time to time. 2. The bristles are much softer and won't scratch like the original block. I have to go over the same spot multiple times to erase them, so it takes longer than before. I also need to use a stronger cleaning solution. The bristles on the other block were much stiffer and the pile on my carpet looked fluffy like new. This gives my rug a little fluffier, but it takes a lot of work in high traffic areas where it gets flat when walked on.
