Review on Sangean ANT 100 External Antenna by Jeff Pettis

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best little antenna for long distance communication!

I bought this Sangean ANT-100 external antenna to receive other NOAA weather stations out of my range and I am very impressed with my reception. So much depends on the atmosphere in which the radio signals propagate, but this antenna actually works 100%! I installed this antenna on my 60 foot weather tower that I built for my weather gear and other items. I used quad shielded coax cable (from my Sangean CL-100 Table-Top Weather Hazard Alert) and two adapters to convert the RCA phono plug to an "F" jack so I could use it to connect to the coax cable could (both ends) to the radio and antenna. I should have spent "a little more" to get other weather stations nearby. Sometimes our weather isn't on the air so another weather station is 45 miles away and I can pick it up day or night. I couldn't receive the station without the antenna! Here's my advice: I've read (from other comments) that with this particular antenna the wire can be pulled out from below (the magnetic zone), but if you're mounting it outside I'd recommend adding a strong weather sealer (or Cement based glue to secure the wire (if so, I did this because mine is set at 55ft, so I just took the extra step to protect the wire from the harsh environment!

Pros
  • Nicely packaged
Cons
  • Can't remember
