I haven't tested it on the road but in my experience with other phone mounts this is the smartest. The base hooks onto the vent valve. You adjust the length of the hook to fit the valve, then fold it away for a snug and secure fit. After the phone holder is attached. Rigid positioning but loose enough to be easily adjusted.
