Review on SportRack SR5527 Adjustable Carrier 24 Inch by David Robinson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Amazingly durable and secure

I bought this for infrequent use - I usually tie my kayak to the back of my pickup but recently I knew it was going to be full of other stuff and I still wanted a kayak take , 13.5 foot tandem. After adjusting the foam blocks to fit the width of the kayak, I found that the rack was easy to mount on the roof. I was concerned that the straps crossing in the passenger compartment would interfere, but that's not the case. In fact, the large kayak easily slid into the mount from the front of the truck, which would not be possible with cheaper foam poles that cannot be independently attached to the car. The kayak was held securely throughout the 250 mile journey into the mountains. Although I got nervous in an area with screaming crosswinds (Highway 680 between Benecia and Cordelia for those who know) and the kayak moved once after a strong gust, I just tightened the straps a bit and it stayed secure. If I were to carry a kayak all the time I might consider investing in one of the more established (expensive) brands but for occasional use I am very impressed with this frame.
