Review on πŸ” Denso 234-5090 Oxygen Sensor: Unmatched Air and Fuel Ratio Detection by Michael Foster

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works like original equipment

I drove my truck 30 miles after installing the replacement oxygen sensor and it seems to have helped. No more check engine light and no more O2 sensor code. Dodge quoted me a price of $210 to replace the O2 sensor, so the Denso sensor saved me a decent amount of money. Some of the things I've learned may help others: Some cars have two exhaust paths, and those cars may also have two banks of O2 sensors. (total 4 sensors). My 2007 Dodge RAM Cummins 6.7L has only one exhaust tract with two O2 sensors. My O2 error code was "1/1" meaning bank 1 sensor 1. Apparently on Dodge trucks, the lower numbered sensor (1) is "upstream" or closer to the engine, and the higher numbered sensor (2) is closer to the exhaust pipe. So code 1/1 told me to replace the sensor block on the engine. On my truck, both sensors are identical, so this Denso sensor works everywhere. Revain told me this sensor is for downstream use only, which isn't true (at least for my truck - I've confirmed this a number of ways). As the old sensor was very difficult to detach I tried tapping the socket wrench handle with a hammer but to no avail (due to other parts in the way it was difficult to get a good hit with the hammer). had to add a 2ft piece of pipe to the end of the socket wrench to permanently disconnect the old sensor. The electrical connector has a small latch that must be released before you can unplug the old sensor. This can be a little tricky. To find the lock. I suggest you look at the new sensor first and figure out where it snaps before going under the truck to remove the old one. Although this replacement took an hour I'm sure the mechanics can do it much quicker According to the on-board display the mileage is as good or better than what I've seen, now around 20mpg at 60mph Cruising speed, so I believe the sensor is doing its job properly.

Pros
  • Easy install
Cons
  • boring package
