Grippy, cheap and reliable

These are great pedals. For $20, they give you no excuse for technical riding without good pedals. As other reviewers point out, the threaded steel bolts make a difference in traction day and night compared to plastic "demo pedals". Even under the prettier flat pedals, they have the best grip I've ever ridden. In decent shoes, your feet won't slip at all unless they lose contact with the pedal. On my single speed hard mountain bike, I found that they improved my maximum cadence and made me a lot more confident on technical terrain: ride a good technique, keep your heels low on the descents and your feet should stay in place . I haven't had many pedal strokes with them, but since I've done this there hasn't been any damage to the plastic other than scratches on the surface. I recently sold my rigid construction to a friend and ended up getting a better bike: I plan to get another set for the new bike. The only issues I have with these pedals are that the bearings aren't very smooth, they're not the lightest, and you need a pedal wrench to install them on the bike. When pedaling alone, it only makes a revolution or two before stopping. These pedals are lighter than some similar ones, but more expensive options are likely to be lighter. Some pedals can only be removed/installed with a hex tool, which requires inserting a narrow wrench between the crank and the pedal platform. I recently replaced a couple of similar pedals with just a wrench but scratched some of the cranks in the process. If you're worried about scratches, a professional wrench will cost around $10, and I'm sure there are cheaper options out there. Also a warning: the spikes on these pedals are sharp! They'll cut your legs if you're not careful or use bad driving technique. If you need a pedal for everyday cruising, this may not be for you. If you're looking for an economical pedal that offers great grip and durability, these are the pedals you need.
