Review on 🐠 Optimized Marineland Magniflow Canister Filter for Easy Aquarium Maintenance by Brittney Kutty

Revainrating 5 out of 5

C-360, Works well on my 55 gallon

Installation took about 90 minutes. The hardest part was filling the pump (correctly). I probably spent 20 minutes on this and purged the air from the system. A slight sloshing and tilting of the device will usually help remove trapped air. Before final assembly, make sure to fill the device almost completely with water. Let the filter media soak for a few minutes (longer = better) to allow trapped air to escape before closing it. This device offers sufficient space for filter materials (material baskets). Read a little about aquarium filters. All media for the first start are included. Also note that the engine head gasket is included in the package. The seal MUST be installed before use (at least for me). In addition, the valve block bores in the engine head are coated with silicone grease on the inside. I smoothed it out trying not to erase too much. Excess grease (on your fingers) can be used to coat the engine head gasket. Coating is not required, but seals will generally last longer with a light coating of silicone grease. My Story: I replaced a 400gph "hanging" filter and am glad I did it. The filter mats used in the old filter were expensive and contained very little carbon or actual mechanical filtration depth. I installed a GoPro camera in my pool with an old filter on a whim and found that the HOB was very noisy in the water. The volume made me switch to an external filter. Life is good for my fish now. A day later they seem to be more active. I had a canister from Fluval a few decades ago, so I'm reasonably familiar with canister filters. These external filters may seem intimidating at first. Take your time, make sure the hoses fit snugly before tightening the clamps. A light soak in hot water will make attaching the hose ends easier. The device is very heavy when filled with water. After all that setup work, enjoy your fish too. :)
