Good sensor unit - here are some handy tips for use

Sensitive to natural gas leaks - even at levels you may not feel. I used it to check the quality of the repair and found that the repair work had not been completed. The gas line fitter didn't believe it at first, but he confirmed with his device that he hadn't properly tightened a clamping screw leading to the gas line meter. there may be a gas leak. It may squeak at first unless you turn the sensitivity down. Then I turn the dial until I hear a chirp. The level at which the chirp starts drifts for a few minutes: it takes about 4-5 minutes of warm-up time to level out, which seems normal (not a defect) for the type of sensor used. During this time you need to adjust the dial. Patience is necessary but rewarded. Once stabilized, I set the dial so that the instrument chirps about once a second. I then move on to the alleged leak and hear how many times it tweets. It is very sensitive and when gas is detected it will beep per minute proportional to the level of the leak (similar to a Geiger counter), then "motor boat" and finally a continuous squeak. Avoid hitting the sensor. (because it's supposedly fragile) or if kids touch the sensor with dirty or sweaty hands, it'll last longer.

Pros
  • Pleasant to use
Cons
  • Not automatic
