This is a great help in many cases. I use it to connect a microphone to my iPad, connect other USB devices to download and retrieve files. It was difficult for me to connect a "non-Apple" device to it. The trick for me is to not plug it in until I open the program and set it up for what I want to do. This. Plugging in with a mic plugged in often causes my iPad to turn off and restart. However, if I have an on-screen camera and I'm in video capture mode before I plug it in, it works every time. The problem only occurs when I plug it in before opening the camera.
