I don't think it's actually 12-ga. the cable. it LOOKS closer to a 16 gauge; I didn't have anything to measure it. but it works and is MUCH cheaper than buying a zipper coil at an electronics store. I used it to connect a bunch of speakers for a class. Each speaker required about 35 feet of cable. Works fine, no problems. The insulation was heavy enough that I could stretch it over a false ceiling without removing the skin from the backing of the metal support grid, and flexible enough that I didn't have to strain to get it around corners. Decent value for money.
