If the room temperature is 70F or higher, this heater may be for you. However, if you live in a drafty house on the cold east coast, some creativity might be in order. Betty (my Betta) was temporarily placed in a 1.5 gallon glass mixing bowl while her tank was running. The average temperature hovered around 70F. Feeling guilty about this, I secured the top of the bowl with a perforated press and seal that would bring the water to 73F. (Still not perfect.) Whenever possible, I leave the heaters on in this room. Another trick that seemed to work was wrapping the bowl in bubble wrap or a blanket. However, since browsing bettas is part of the fun of owning one, this hack isn't very user-friendly. The outside temperature today is 40C. Without the heater, the room temperature is 61F, while Betty's is 69F (until Press & Seal, heater and "scarf" were added). I love the product design here. Complaining about the heater is not that difficult. It doesn't take up much space at all. But it didn't make Betty very fried either.
