Risk of electric shock

Worked for about a year and woke up this morning with 6 loud bangs to find smoke coming from the tank. Black soot and dead fish everywhere. Not knowing anything better, my son climbed into the aquarium to try and save the fish. This is a clear safety hazard and a high risk of electric shock. I don't know if this thing is UL or CSA approved, but it's definitely worth checking out. Made in China so I doubt it.

Pros
  • All right!
Cons
  • Not bad but...

So far so good: Aquarium Heater

I was a bit skeptical about buying this as some reviews said it electrocutes fish. But I needed something small for my 1g tank. I bought a 4W round piece and even though I buried it under gravel and had an artificial plant on it, it keeps my water just under 80 degrees. The size is suitable for a small fish tank. I don't like how the cord comes out of the pillow, you can't push it tight against the side of the bowl. And I see that smaller bowls can overheat if you don't bury the heater underโ€ฆ

very important; My fish are happier with its warmer water.

I use this in my 1 gallon bowl for my cock. I connected it to a timer so that my fish have a regular daily routine. APPEARANCE: Easy to bury under rocks. CORD: Useful suction cup and the cord is long enough to reach an outlet. FUNCTION: My fish is definitely happier since his bowl is 5 degrees hotter! Now he always builds a bubble nest. The only downside is that with a major cleaning (other than a regular water change) the bowl gets destroyed while I'm getting it out. I think this is probablyโ€ฆ

4W is a bit weak for use on gravel

I installed a 1 gallon tank after adopting a family member's betta. I let the tank and heater run empty for several hours to make sure everything was fine and the 4w heater was working perfectly. Before adding the betta fish, I added a half inch of gravel and a center piece to give it a place to hide. After letting the fish acclimate in a small plastic cup, it seemed quite content to explore its new location (the old tank it was in before is getting cold due to the weather). Anyway, I woke upโ€ฆ

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Good but not great

Beautiful Design Cool Heat

If the room temperature is 70F or higher, this heater may be for you. However, if you live in a drafty house on the cold east coast, some creativity might be in order. Betty (my Betta) was temporarily placed in a 1.5 gallon glass mixing bowl while her tank was running. The average temperature hovered around 70F. Feeling guilty about this, I secured the top of the bowl with a perforated press and seal that would bring the water to 73F. (Still not perfect.) Whenever possible, I leave the heatersโ€ฆ

Reliable, durable, affordable and it works!

I have two of these 15 watts for my two 3.5 gallon cockatiel tanks for a year. I have about an inch of gravel that I buried the heaters under, they are in the middle of the bottom of the tanks. Each tank has a small skin and random foliage. The tanks have a filter and a light. At my home, the temperature varies between 64 and 78 degrees throughout the year, depending on the season and time of day. These heaters kept my tanks between 78 and 82 degrees at all times. My males are very activeโ€ฆ

  • Perfect for outdoor activities

Works fairly well albeit intermittently

I have a betta in a 1.5 gallon aquarium on my desk. I'm in California so it never gets cold here, but the heat is turned off at night and on weekends. His water got too cold. I bought the 7.5W version based on some reviews. This heating appears to be intermittent. Sometimes the water is perfect, sometimes a little chilly but not cold. The info that came with the device didn't say anything about turning it on and off, so I don't know if that's normal. My Betta Kevin seems to be doing fine. Iโ€ฆ

Raises the temperature by about 10 degrees

I originally got a 4w round heater for my betta bowl but it didn't heat it to the right temperature (maybe 5 degrees) so I have I opted for 7.5 W works great. I love the super slim shape which makes it easy to attach the heater to the back of my betta bowl behind a small filter that also attaches to the wall with a suction cup. A 7.5 W heater keeps the temperature constant between 77 and 81 degrees. . My Betta seems happier, much more active and eating more so I find the heating is a positiveโ€ฆ
