Bought for my 8 year old to start learning. When they say "kids" or "younger" they must mean babies. rzunimag. But seriously, this headpiece is perfect for my 3 year old nephew. Not suitable for 8-10 year olds. maybe these kids have watermelon heads πŸ€·β€β™‚οΈ As for protection, this is educational material. The crown and ears are adequately protected. Face wide open, and I mean wide open. I bought the 8oz Everlast training gloves and one of these is perfect for the face hole. a decent headdress but could definitely cover the cheeks and chin better. I would have liked more protection from open face shots. he was shot in the face and had a bloody nose. I've seen an Everlast headgear that has smaller face openings and offers more protection. I've used it for boxing so I don't think it suits our needs. but for karate or taekwondo that's probably normal. Definitely not for boxing or kickboxing but I gave 3 stars due to size confusion
