Extremely sharp in edges and appearance. I don't know enough about knife making to confirm or refute the Damascus claim. I got a much, much cheaper "damascus" knife and it was only damascus style and the engraving looked and felt very different than that knife. To me, this isn't a confirmation of the Damascus claim, but it certainly speaks volumes about the quality of this knife. Regardless of metal composition or forming method, this IS a quality knife and value for money. The only complaint I have so far is the weight. It's decently heavy and not balanced where I like it, but still quite serviceable and I'm sure I'll be able to handle it. If you find the Chinese to English translations as amusing as I do, the outer box should bring you a few giggles.
