Review on ๐Ÿ“ท Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ4S 8.1MP Digital Camera: 10x Wide Angle Zoom & Image Stabilization by Lild Zimmerly

Great, versatile camera.

I bought this camera after a very short research to replace my Canon SD400 which was used for 3 years (and I always have the camera with me, therefore a lot of use). I wanted something relatively small but more powerful than my Canon, which took great still subject shots in good light and decent video, but was slow and limited to 3x zoom and a dead flash. Out of the box the TZ4K looks good, if a little chunky compared to slim Elphs and other more compact cameras on the market. However, it turns on quickly and adapts easily to pretty much everything I've tested so far (I had nothing but rain for the first week, so for a while I just took dimly lit indoor shots of my cats and the occasional photo). However, my cats actually looked like cats, not like blurry spots or white glowing things, which is a big improvement over my old camera). the long end of the zoom (especially when the subject is moving), but I suspect disabling continuous autofocus could help that. I have some interesting footage of my three year old nephew walking around. I took it to a bar with some friends and shot with a friend who owns a Nikon. I took it on a hike today and tried the landscape and macro modes, although the latter can be a bit tricky at times. It can't always decide whether to focus on the background or the foreground, even when macro mode is selected (although it will tell you when you're too close for it to focus). I've noticed some focus changes. in video mode which some people have complained about in reviews on this and the TZ3/TZ5 but honestly this was minimal and can be avoided by turning AF off. The sound quality is comparable to my Canon - not the highest quality but clear and audible. Battery life is good, and there's a battery meter on the screen so you don't have to dig through menus to see how long you've been running. I got. I bought it bundled with 4GB SDHC and a reader and they arrived the same day. Also have the Lowepro Rezo 30 suitcase which is not too bulky but has a soft lining and lots of padding. Overall I really like this camera and would recommend it to anyone looking to buy it. Definitely worth it. Edit: I've had this camera for over a year now and still love it. I thought the images would be a bit "cool" on the "natural" color setting, but "vivid" is what makes up for it. One feature I noticed and don't like is that when switching between video and photo capture, it sometimes accidentally saves a very low resolution image. It's really frustrating because I've had a few good shots that were spoiled by horrible image quality in a format too small to make a decent 4x6. If anyone else has this problem and/or has a solution I'd appreciate it. Although in most cases this is not a problem.

Pros
  • understandable even for the old ones
Cons
  • some little things
