I had a special need. I had a descent ladder 10 feet off the ground with a failed gas strut. Given the uncomfortable space to work on the replacement, I was afraid that squeezing the rack while pushing it up the stairs (like a trip to the ER or worse) wouldn't be the best idea. I have several ratchet straps but the 15 foot with hook was the shortest I had. However, it was the shortest I could find without a catch. I attached one end of the new post to the ladder and then wrapped it around the post and snapped it down. The only thing I had to do was cut off part of the strap to make sure I didn't completely fill the ratchet spool. However, this unique need was easily met with this product - it easily compressed 2 80lb racks and provided a secure installation.
