No matter how tightly I tie the tarpaulin to the awning, it always collects water. Coupled with the fact that I have to constantly pull on the lid to drain the water (so I got wet), I decided to punch a few holes in the bottom of the lid and install them. They work phenomenally! Water no longer pools and drains to a location far enough away from the vehicle to keep it dry. While this is "technically" not the intended use of the product, it works exceptionally well and I would recommend it for that use. .
