Review on ๐Ÿฑ Optimized Scratching Post Perch by SmartCat: The Ultimate Solution by Damien Holland

Revainrating 3 out of 5

Works well with modifications

I read other reviews before buying a smartcat perch. I've had it for about a week now. One reviewer suggested using a piece of mat to keep it in place. I had an extra piece of waffle rubber mat and cut it to match the perch. This prevents the pad from slipping. The small circles of velcro are starting to fall off as other reviews have warned. I replace the circles with velcro that I bought for a previous project. I cut out pieces of velcro to cover an area larger than the circles and glued them on with gorilla glue. I'm sure this will be a permanent solution. The clips that keep the perch from sliding off the scratching post are small and will likely break in the future. In this case, it should be easy to find a replacement at the hardware store. The extra modifications that need to be made to the perch are annoying and shouldn't be necessary. The product needs to be better designed and the quality improved. That being said, my 13.5 lb cat loves to sit on the perch (instead of lying down) and watch what's going on in the room. The perch is too small for him to lie on. 07/16/2013: As I expected, the plastic clips that were supposed to prevent the perch from slipping off the scratching post broke and the perch slipped off. I bought a set of 3/4 inch (1.9 cm) metal corners at the hardware store. I carefully flattened two staples with a hammer and attached one to each clamp hole with the screws that came with the perch. Now two 1.5" metal brackets that should hold the perch to the post without breaking. The hardware store also had plastic window brackets that might have worked, but I figured they'd break eventually too, so I don't have them My 13.5 lb cat still enjoys sitting on it and my 10 lb cat sleeps on it all the time.
