I bought this for a specific purpose: I needed to upgrade to a new laptop. I got a deal on a laptop but it didn't have a big enough SSD. So I first used this to move the contents of the SSD that came with the laptop to a larger SSD, and then after some restructuring I used the original SSD to move tens of gigabytes of data from the old laptop to to move the new one. It worked. Installing the SSD in the enclosure took a minute and using it was as easy as plugging it into a USB port. It came with USBA to USBC and USBC to USBC cables, so I had the maximum data transfer speeds of both laptops. And now it's done, I have a portable drive with a capacity of half a gigabyte in a sturdy case. I'll admit I don't have a permanent application for it yet, but I'm sure I will find it!
