I can't afford to replace the 2010 version of G, but why? The 85mm 1.4D lens delivers sharp images even with wide open and creamy backgrounds, so you'll look like a pro even when you're not. I understand that the G version has a nano coating, but I use the hood all the time and I'm happy with the result. As for the sharper angles at G, that doesn't bother me either as I don't shoot into the corners and plus the softness in portraits is acceptable. I spent a total of $900 but I also saved $900 and I know this lens will be in my arsenal for years to come. The true beauty of the lens. To update. I've been using this lens for almost a year and it performs amazingly. It surpassed anything I've ever owned and includes fast professional lenses like the Nikon 28-70mm 2.8 and the Nikon 80-200mm 2.8. Folks, yes it's not a zoom, but if you definitely think about quality then this is the mother of all lenses when it comes to one. Portrait lovers wonder who took these shots, as this lens is the secret to the sharpness and wide-aperture bokeh that makes models appreciate your work. I've photographed dozens of models and they even say my work is professional. I used to have a Nikon 85mm 1.8 and I can say there is a reason to pay three times more for a Nikon 85mm 1.4d. When you want the best of the best and every detail counts.
