Built like a tank. Fantastic lens

This lens has everything it should be. Pin sharp, excellent bokeh, fast, durable. This is a professional lens. Technically it is outdated, but it has a unique look and character that cannot be reproduced.

  • Great price
Cons
  • Negative gift

AF is not compatible with FTZ or Z6 adapter.

It would be nice to know I'm buying a lens that I have to use in manual mode but it's still a great lens and I left a great review with a single seller. It is worth noting that AF Nikkor lenses do not autofocus on Z6 bodies with an FTZ adapter.

Pros
  • New to my collection
Cons
  • Ugly packaging

Incredible sharpness and speed

This lens delivers absolutely stunning image quality in terms of sharpness and color reproduction. And that up to the maximum aperture. Being able to capture beautiful, crisp images at f1.4 opens up a world of possibilities for indoor or low-light shooting. And the build quality is second to none.

Pros
  • A dream come true
Cons
  • Slightly torn

Have been waiting for this cool product for a long time

This lens has been around for quite some time so I can't say much that hasn't already been written. My budget has always limited me to slower lenses. A slow lens and low light are a big problem. If you can't open the aperture to let in enough light, the shutter needs to be slower. This situation made some photos inaccessible to my equipment. No longer. The glass of this lens looks like it was stolen from an observatory. It's huge. It has some weight, but it's not as strenuous as you might…

excellent optics and solid construction

Modern 85 Nikons are much more expensive. Canon Excellent 85 costs $2,000. I bought my 1.4d used for 800 in excellent condition. Unlike the more expensive G lens, it's mostly metal. Nikon may have discontinued it, so don't expect this lens. It offers excellent value for money and is built to last a lifetime, just like classic manual lenses. It's simple and has no motor to fail. Focusing is quick thanks to a good Nikon body. Visually, it is probably 95% the same as its modern counterpart. The…

The legend makes you look like a pro

I can't afford to replace the 2010 version of G, but why? The 85mm 1.4D lens delivers sharp images even with wide open and creamy backgrounds, so you'll look like a pro even when you're not. I understand that the G version has a nano coating, but I use the hood all the time and I'm happy with the result. As for the sharper angles at G, that doesn't bother me either as I don't shoot into the corners and plus the softness in portraits is acceptable. I spent a total of $900 but I also saved $900…

Expensive but worth it for its versatility

I've had my eye on this lens for a long time but was hesitant to spend money on it. I bought it a few months ago and have been using it almost exclusively on my D90 ever since. This is a great lens and I know this is the lens to add to my photography gear now. I agree with previous reviewers, there are two main reasons to buy this lens. First, if you're shooting in low light, this lens works incredibly well. I was at my kids' school the other day and took some music photos for the yearbook. The
