Review on πŸ’» Enhance Your Connectivity with Sonnet Allegro USB-C 4-Port PCIe Card by Matt Morgan

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great way to upgrade any desktop

Cons: The card is quite expensive. $130 seems like too much for a couple of ports. There are many things to like though: the USB ports are actually faster than my old built-in Type-A. Oculus Link works great. When using an external Samsung T5 SSD, the reading speed is 554 MB/s (probably limited by the SSD). I was a little concerned that the ports were far out on the side (rather than centered). It's an odd design choice, but thankfully it wasn't an issue with any of my cables. They all fit well. Pleasant surprise: The description says "power up to 7.5 watts per port". I actually measured 5V/3A on one port, so the card excels here. This card includes modern ports and instead adds more legacy ports (which I have more than enough anyway, especially since all my peripherals have been Type-C for years). Considering that even brand new motherboards usually only have one C type (but more A types), that's really nice.

Pros
  • Perfect for outdoor activities
Cons
  • May damage
