Review on Liftgate Mercury Mariner 2008 2012 Tailgate by Lance Story

Direct replacement and easy installation

I paid the dealer over $300 to replace them on my 2008 Escape before they failed. On my Escape 2012 one of the factory units failed while I was on a road trip. I ordered them to have at my house when I come back. I replaced them myself, you just have to loosen the glass posts with a little care so they don't pop out and accidentally break the glass. - Install new ones. I reused the original screws through the glass because the washers on them were larger than those in the kit. Replacement pads were styrofoam for water protection and this proved to be sufficient. All in all, the job took about an hour and saved a lot of money. If you're even a little savvy, you shouldn't have any problems. Considering the originals lasted 8 years I expect them to last as long as I keep the car but if I have to do it again no big deal.
