Description of Liftgate Mercury Mariner 2008 2012 Tailgate

On many trucks and SUVs, the rear glass, above the tailgate, can be opened up to provide additional ventilation or a little extra space for that couch you’re trying to move. The rear glass hinges are what let the rear glass open and close. The hinges are mounted at the top of the glass and attach to body just below the roof. They are usually made of metal. A hinge bolt allows the hinge to open and close smoothly, just like the hinges on any of the doors in your house. Because rear glass hinges are mounted on the outside of glass, they are exposed to the elements.Metal can start to corrode. You may notice mineral deposits beneath the hinges on rear window glass. That’s from water streaking the rust over your windows. If hinge bolt corrodes, hinge can either become stiff or loose. It might be hard to open rear window or keep it open.A loose hinge might eventually give way and let rear glass fall off, which could easily break it. In that case, you need to replace it. This Rear Window Liftgate Glass Hinge Fits the Following Vehicles: 2008-2012 Ford Escape, 2008-2011 Mercury Mariner, 2008-2011 Mazda Tribute. Customers can find the product you need accurately according to the OE number. OE part number: Left 8L8Z-78420A68-D, 8L8Z78420A68D; Right 8L8Z-78420A68-C, 8L8Z78420A68C; 924-123. This Rear Liftgate Glass Hinges Kit comes as a Pair with both the LEFT and RIGHT hinge, cover, and screws. Fits for 2008-2012 Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, Mazda Tribute LH (Driver Side) & RH (Passenger Side) Rear Glass. When the factory hinges fail the glass may not open or close properly causing a dangerous condition. Replace your factory hinges at the first sign of failure and avoid breaking your rear liftgate glass.

It's worth it. - Chassis

We watched a video on You Tube to see how to install it was pretty easy. We had to add a washer for 1 clamp but other than that they fit perfectly. The dealer is offering it for $270, we saved money by doing it ourselves.

Pros
  • Special Offer

Ford Escape Tailgate Quick Repair

This Ford Escape model is notorious for rust and corrosion on the tailgate. I was going to use the sunroof window and it basically fell off because the original hinges fell apart. I ordered these and installed them. Now it works like new.

Pros
  • There is something wrong
Cons
  • There are imperfections

Really good hinges: Bodywork

I bought these hinges to replace a 2010 OEM Escape. The OEM was bad enough that the rear window was ready to fall off. Bad design by Ford with material. These hinges are excellently made, lighter and very easy to assemble. Less than 10 minutes. If you need to replace hinges, take them.

Pros
  • Brilliantly made
Cons
  • So far so good

Perfect fit for the 2012 Escape

I just installed them but they look just as solid as the originals except I reused the old nuts because the washer was more than this one was complete with new hinges. Removing the old hinges was a chore for the right side, which is completely rusted. The old left hinge came off easily but wasn't completely corroded. Installing the new one went smoothly and the new hinges match my 2012 Escape perfectly.

Pros
  • Useful beyond its intended purpose
Cons
  • I vaguely remember

Direct replacement and easy installation

I paid the dealer over $300 to replace them on my 2008 Escape before they failed. On my Escape 2012 one of the factory units failed while I was on a road trip. I ordered them to have at my house when I come back. I replaced them myself, you just have to loosen the glass posts with a little care so they don't pop out and accidentally break the glass. - Install new ones. I reused the original screws through the glass because the washers on them were larger than those in the kit. Replacement pads…

Pros
  • Convenient item
Cons
  • Protection
