When I first tried to finely grind with a bottomless portafilter, this grinder jammed and the internal gear broke. I sent it back as defective. The second grinder did EXACTLY the same thing. This grinder seems to work fine unless you're grinding lightly roasted beans towards the bottom of the grind scale, in which case it will self-destruct. You would expect a grinder set to "2" to work properly at this setting. The frayed internal gear is made of soft plastic and cannot be replaced. If this grinder gets stuck during operation, it will break and not stop. This is the main design flaw. I'm really surprised that many of them are still in use. Based on my experience, I think they all break sooner or later. While it's entirely possible that I had two faulty grinders, I think it's more likely that the problem here is in the design. I highly doubt ordering another one. Even if it worked for a while I would be very afraid it would break outside of the return window.
